  • Emergency Response and Preparedness Project

Most of the areas in which Caritas Zambia operates are prone to disasters such as droughts and excessive flooding. Often time, people are not aware and prepared when such disasters happen and livelihoods are lost in the process leading severe sufferings by the victims. This also has a negative impact on the general development of the country as resources have to be diverted to address the effects of the disasters.

The Emergency Response and Preparedness Project of Caritas Zambia endeavours to prepare communities to respond to some of the effects of such disasters. In this regard, the studies on coping mechanisms and indigenous Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) measures in communities are undertaken.

    Operational Objective 1
To improve the response of selected communities in at least 7 Dioceses to respond to calamities and emergencies by 2011.

    Activities
Training communities in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
Creating awareness on early warning systems
Advocacy on climate change related issues
Raining of communities in advocacy and lobbying skills
Training in post harvest crop handling, storage and reservation
Facilitate formation of Community Emergency Groups
